The Sapphire Coast without a car

Possible, with planning — and a guided tour fills the gaps.

The national parks and remote beaches are hard to reach without your own vehicle, but you can still have a great trip by choosing a walkable base and adding a tour.

Choose a walkable base

Merimbula is the best car-free base: the beach, boardwalk, wharf, restaurants and airport are all close together. Eden works well too, with the museum, wharf and lookouts in walking distance.

Local transport

  • Limited local bus services connect towns along the highway; check timetables carefully.
  • Taxis and rideshare are limited; book ahead.
  • Bike hire is available in Merimbula.

Tours

The tours we could verify on GetYourGuide are a 4-hour Eden shore excursion and the Panboola and Potoroo Palace day above. Whale cruises leave from Eden and Merimbula wharves in season.

Hard without a car

Green Cape, the Light to Light Walk trailheads and most national park campgrounds require a vehicle or a transfer.
