Tathra is a small coastal village about 18 km east of Bega. Its timber sea wharf, first built in the 1860s, once shipped produce from the Bega Valley to Sydney. It is now a favourite spot for fishing, watching for seals and whales, and admiring the coastline.

A day in Tathra
Start with coffee near the wharf, walk out along the timber deck and scan the water for seals and, in season, whales. Head south to Kianinny Bay for a snorkel or a coastal walk into Bournda National Park, then spend the afternoon on Tathra Beach or riding the local trails. For a longer day, drive north through Mimosa Rocks National Park to Bermagui.
