The Merimbula Boardwalk follows the shore of Merimbula Lake through mangroves and past oyster leases. It is flat, easy and one of the most popular walks in town.
What to expect
- Distance: a few kilometres one way; walk as much as you like and return.
- Surface: mostly boardwalk and path; suitable for prams and many wheelchairs on main sections.
- Wildlife: stingrays in the shallows, crabs, pelicans, herons and other water birds.
- Views: across the lake to the bridge and hills.

Tips
- Go at low tide to see crabs and rays in clear shallow water.
- Early morning and late afternoon are cooler and quieter.
- Combine with coffee in town or oysters from a nearby farm.
- Bring binoculars for birdwatching.
Where to start
Popular access points are near the town centre on the lake side and around the lake’s edge; signage marks the route. Parking is available nearby. If you want a loop, combine part of the boardwalk with a stroll back through town.
Respect the lake
Merimbula Lake supports commercial oyster farming. Stay on the boardwalk, do not take shellfish from leases, and take rubbish with you.
